| | GENERAL FEATURES |
The essential peculiarity of this property is that it is within the Gran Pantanal System, which is the largest fresh water system in the planet.
From this perspective, and taking into account the bio-strategic importance, the property offers an enviable perspective. Its 15 km of coastline on the left bank of the Paraguay River also place it in an unbeatable perspective, in view of the Proyecto Subcontinental de la Hidrovía.(American Waterway Project). Its proximity to the axis Puerto Murtinho (Brazil) - Puerto Carmelo Peralta (Paraguay), at distance of 80 km (50 miles) downstream from Fuerte Olimpo, also represents a tangible factor in the potential impact of any strategic planning. The last element to consider is its profile for ecotourism. The property has the Barrero stream that is born and dies in it and is the main product of the Nabileque fishing system, one of the seven component systems of the Gran Pantanal. It is important to mention that Paraguay is territorially involved in 7% of the system and is currently a virgin holding with regard to ecotourism. The city of Fuerte Olimpo has triphasic electricity and has the old Fort Bourbon, of the Cultural Heritage of Paraguay. |
| Topography and Hydrography |
The property is characterized by being divided into two clearly defined areas:
The Pantanal proper with an area of approximately 3.500 ha, () whose behavior is known, in the growing season it is flooded, with levels lowering quickly according to the behavior of the Paraguay River, but during that time the activity of grazing of the animals is reduced but feasible because it has enough heights or recostaderos (places where the cows find shelter).
The abundance of streams and lagoons in the system, in addition to the wealth of pasture varieties of all kinds, including grasses and legumes, make it very suitable for the complete cycle of raising, rearing, and fattening of bovine animals and other species with very high productivity rates.
The Riacho Barrero divides this area into two segments of the same characteristics.
This is the area of excellence for ecotourism, due to its coastline or riverbank on the River Paraguay and Riacho Barrero. Innumerable flocks of birds, schools of fish and herds of wild animals such as marsh deer, carpinchos, Cure-i, the Tajik-ti, in addition to the species of reptiles such as crocodiles, anacondas and other, make this area a unique spectacle.
The higher part, “altura” as is known by the locals, irrigated by countless streams and natural lagoons, some of them inexhaustible even in the worst prolonged droughts, all fed by the Rio Paraguay and the rains coming from the West or Central Chaco, Los Madrejones and the lagoon systems such as Laguna Gral. Diaz, Inmakata, etc..
This high section ranges from the upper levels 78 to 84, with a fast surface drainage and excellent land for agriculture or the establishment of artificial pastures, as well as for reforestation or forestation, according to the operating profile that is chosen.
Vegetation:
The predominant vegetation is the Palm or Caranday Palm (Copernicia alba), with a density depending on the level of natural distribution, being less dense in the higher places than in the lowlands. It is important to mention the large reserve of carnauba palm or Palma Negra, (Copernicia prunifera) that has the property. A variety in extinction, it is a very popular product in the domestic as well as in international markets, including extra continental ones.
Other tree species are white and black Algarrobo, and algarrobillo (Carob spp.); Timbó (Tilia viridis), Yacaresito and other species of white wood. In the west side, from the northern to the southern boundaries there are forests with red Quebracho, Coronilla and other hardwood species.
The surface vegetation coverage is very rich and varied, with grasses of all kinds and different kinds of legumes, especially the Teherei ot pasto clavel del norte (Hermarthria altissima ), very palatable and with exceptional nutritional characteristics. |
